Coastal wildflowers
In the spring and summer the Cornish cliffs and coastal paths are abundant with wildflowers, for me it is a treasure trove , an abundance of gems strewn across the land. What really excites me is the quality that they have and the places they choose to grow in. The wind is often blowing when I am photographing these delicate forms (a calm day is rare) so this dance is also part of the story, I also usually make these images at either end of the day as the sun rises and sinks. Each plant has it's own character and these images show flowers at their height of glory and near the end of their cycle of growth, it is the light of the sun that coaxes them out from the earth; it is this relationship, their innate beauty and the symbolism of the passing of time and the fragility of life that draws me to make these images.
To see a World in a Grain of Sand
And a Heaven in a Wild Flower,
Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand
And Eternity in an hour.
William Blake
